5 Wallets Tied to QuadrigaCX Moved Around 104 $BTC Recently

Crypto researcher ZachXBT said on Twitter that five wallets attributed to QuadrigaCX, the defunct Canadian crypto exchange, moved around 104 $BTC on December 17th. Blockchain records show the wallets had not sent $BTC since at least April 2018.

QuadrigaCX used to be Canada's biggest crypto exchange. It declared bankruptcy in April 2019 following the December 2018 death of its founder and CEO, Gerald Cotten, who was solely responsible for the private keys of the exchange's wallets. At the time of its bankruptcy, QuadrigaCX owed around 155,000 users up to $200 million in crypto.

In February 2019, a report from accounting firm Ernst & Young showed that on February 6th, 2019, QuadrigaCX transferred around 103 $BTC to cold wallets that only Gerald Cotten had access to.
