Ethereum Core Developers: Holesky Testnet Launch Failed, Cancun Mainnet Activation May Not Occur This Year

Galaxy Research Vice President Christine Kim summarized the 118th Ethereum All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC). The meeting primarily discussed the preparations for Devnet-9 and changes to the Ethereum Consensus Layer (CL).

During this meeting, Ethereum Core Developer Tim Beiko raised questions about the Dencun testnet timeline. According to previous suggestions, the Cancun upgrade (Dencun) was planned to be sequentially launched on the following testnets: Holesky, Goerli, and then Sepolia.

However, due to network configuration errors, the Holesky testnet launch failed earlier and is scheduled to restart on September 28th. Therefore, Tim Beiko indicated that if developers cannot ensure the release of Dencun on a public testnet before the Ethereum Developers Conference Devconnect in November 2023, the mainnet activation of Dencun is likely to be postponed to next year.
