Ethereum developers have announced the schedule for the Shanghai-Capella upgrade on the Sepolia test network, the second public testnet to deploy the upgrade after the Zhejiang testnet.
The Shanghai-Capella upgrade aims to enable ether ($ETH) withdrawals from network validators. The upgrade is a combination of changes to the execution layer (Shanghai) and the consensus layer (Capella), which respectively upgrade the execution and consensus layers of the blockchain.
The Shanghai-Capella upgrade is a crucial step in the transition to Shanghai upgrade, the network's next major upgrade. To ensure a successful deployment, developers have planned multiple phases of public testing, and the upcoming launch on Sepolia is part of this process. After the Sepolia launch, the final phase of dress rehearsal will take place on the Goerli testnet ahead of the mainnet launch, which is expected to happen in March.
