MetaMask Adds Support for Third-Party Features via Newly Launched Snaps

MetaMask announced the launch of Snaps, an app platform allowing third-party developers to build new features (which are called Snaps) for the wallet. Users will be able to insert the Snaps into their MetaMask browser extensions.

At launch, MetaMask offers 34 Snaps, which have gone through security audits. The Snaps focus on three use cases, transaction insights, interoperability, and notifications. The ones related to interoperability allow users to connect their MetaMask wallets to non-EVM chains, including Bitcoin, Solana, Cosmos, and more.

"We are building MetaMask Snaps as an open platform for innovation and we do not charge developers for publishing Snaps to this platform. We believe that permissionless innovation is a cornerstone of a decentralized system—no gatekeepers. Innovation thrives at the pace of the network, not just within an individual development team at Consensys," said Christian Montoya, Product Lead for MetaMask Snaps.
