Investor Falling into Series Scam of fake exchange customer services, wallet customer services, and lawyers

In a rare case disclosed by Bitrace, the investor was scammed four times in a row by fraudsters posing as exchange customer services, wallet customer services, and lawyers, who lured the victim through high-yield financial product and fake smart contracts, successfully taking away the investor's cryptocurrency assets.

The victim received a private message from someone posing as "exchange customer service" from Huobi Exchange official Telegram group, claiming that the exchange recently launched a user reward programme that offered a 110% value of HT in return for depositing ETH into a smart contract and joining another "Huobi Promotion group" with over ten thousand members.

The victim, convinced by the alleged high earnings of many fellow members, eventually deposited a large amount of ETH into the smart contract, but when the return on HT failed to be credited, it could not be exchanged and sold on the chain either. The reality was that this customer service was a scammer, and all the members were bots.

Upon questioning in the official telegram group, another "Huobi customer service" volunteered to help the victim by 'checking addresses' and asked the victim to submit a "complaint form," which included description of the incident, wallet address, mnemonic words, and other information about the funds. As a result, the remaining funds in the victim's wallet was stolen.

Because the victim used the imToken wallet, a "friend" in the group suggested to contact the wallet company for help, so the victim contacted "imToken customer service" through the official Telegram group, and was told that block chain data could be rolled back technically to recover the stolen assets, but the victim needed to prepare for another wallet and deposit a certain amount of ETH, with the more ETH the faster the data could be rolled back. The victim then created a new wallet and deposited 32 ETH, followed the instruction to access the so-called smart contract to roll back block data and lost all the deposited funds.

After being scammed continuously, the victim sought help from various online communities, met other victims, and joined a group for rights protection. The group urged victims to sue in collaboration with an attorney to recover their losses, but the fake lawyer disappeared after crowdfunding and prepaying fees.

The detailed process of the case can be found in Bitrace original article in Chinese.
